Apeln 9, situated on Vasavägen, dates back to the early 1940s, a period marked by the war. During that time, Linköping faced a significant shortage of housing, as the numerous factories and industrial plants required accommodation for their workers. The city's residential areas began to transform with the replacement of older wooden buildings by new stone houses. Along the stretch of Vasavägen, practical four-story "Folkhem" buildings were erected. However, not all of them featured the same level of detail and included balconies as seen in the Apeln 9 property.
